As Pseudo Blue's frontman and primary song writer, Eric was the band’s fulcrum. And though his preferred instrument may be the guitar, Eric is a genuine virtuoso and gifted musician. Once matured, his unique style created a sound delightfully difficult to pin down. Along with Steven and James, Eric was part of the band’s original trio.
Pianist. Lawyer. Father. Even de facto manager. James esquire was a part of the band's primordial soup stage as a baseless trio. During this time, James took a Ray Manzarek approach, sacrificing melodic energy for the good of the low end. After the band relocated to Raleigh, James provided badly needed practice space.
Andrew joined at a critical juncture, helping steer the band during its transition from Wilmington to Raleigh and then Raleigh to the eastern United States. Andrew’s style and character were fundamental to the burgeoning Pseudo Blue sound. His funk-laced rhythm is clever, colorful and multi-dimensional, filling a void that had dogged the band.
Gabe joined Pseudo Blue in 2011, bringing with him focus and consistency. As a result, the band’s sound became manifest. Its musical mandate was clear. With Gabe, the band could feel comfortable in its own skin, shedding its penchant for anxious deviation. Pseudo Blue entered the studio not long after as a band content with its identity.
There is plenty of time to wallow in the mire. However, there is plenty of time to play drums, also. And from 2008 to 2011, that is exactly what this rusty-blonde did. Steven aspired to be an amalgamation of Stewart Copeland, Jon Fishman and Mitch Mitchell. Whether he was successful is another story. As the adage goes: good artists play, great artists steal.
